Productivity Tools

Lagoon provides productivity tools to support development in Visual Studio. They accelerate repetitive tasks, but they do not replace developer analysis and decision-making.

Remember

These tools are development aids. The developer remains responsible for verifying the generated code, Lagoon conventions, translations, and functional behavior.

Installation in Visual Studio

  1. In Visual Studio, open the Tools / Options... menu.
  2. In the options window, open Environment / Extensions.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Enter the extension source:
    • Name: Productivity Tools
    • URL: https://vsix.desirade.fr/
  5. Confirm with OK.
  6. Open Extensions / Manage Extensions.
  7. Select Online / Productivity Tools.
  8. Select Lagoon, then click Download.
  9. Restart Visual Studio to complete the installation.

Usage

After installation, Visual Studio displays new icons in the toolbar, under the Lagoon extension menu.

Lagoon Menu

The Lagoon menu centralizes maintenance and generation actions related to the framework:

ActionUsage
New application creationInitialize a Lagoon application.
Update the dotnet LGN toolUpdate the Lagoon build tool.
Update Lagoon packagesAlign the open project with expected Lagoon packages.
Documentation generationProduce documentation from the project.
Clean bin and obj directoriesRemove build outputs from all projects in the solution.

New Item... Menu

The New menu supports the creation of common elements in a Lagoon site:

  • Create a new page;
  • Create a component;
  • Create a controller;
  • Create an empty service;
  • Create a data table administration page;
  • Create a ViewModel and Model / ViewModel mapping;
  • Create a new API call.
ViewModels and mapping

ViewModel creation and mapping are detailed on the dedicated page: ViewModel and mapping. This page does not go into detail on this topic.

Important considerations

  • For a data table administration page, models must be defined in the Context or Models folders of the Model project.
  • After generation, systematically review the produced files to verify Lagoon conventions: Razor / C# separation, Lg* components, translations #..., policies, and exception handling.
